Drukair, the Royal Bhutan Airlines, has officially announced a significant expansion of its Southeast Asian network. Starting April 2026, the national flag carrier will reintroduce services to Bangkok via Guwahati and increase its flight frequency to Singapore, marking a major milestone in Bhutan’s regional connectivity.
The move is designed to restore historical links and accommodate a "sustained growth in passenger demand." Beyond tourism, the expansion is strategically aligned with the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) project in southern Bhutan and the Government of India’s "Act East Policy."

Unlocking Travel Flexibility: The "End of Rigid Itineraries"
Historically, the twice-weekly schedule forced travelers into fixed 4-day or 7-day trips. The third frequency creates more "itinerary permutations."
-
Shorter Getaways: Ideal for Singapore-based professionals seeking flexible timing without burning of annual leave.
-
Festival Alignment: Bhutan’s famous Tshechus (religious festivals) follow a lunar calendar and rarely align with a twice-weekly flight. A third day makes it significantly easier to arrive exactly for the opening mask dances.
-
Reduced "Layover Fatigue": For long-haul travelers from the US, UK, or Australia, a third flight reduces the likelihood of an enforced overnight stay in Singapore, making for a smoother transition to the Himalayas.
